    About

Headshot of Connie Gard - Owner/Creator of Flavor Walk

    hey there!

    Hey, I'm Connie!

I'm Connie, Flavor Walk's writer, baker, cook, and photographer. I share sweet and savory gluten free recipes adding flavor to life.

Why do I share gluten free recipes? Like many folks I live with Celiac disease. I know first-hand what it's like to miss enjoying bread, cookies, desserts, pastas, soups, and everything else in between. These are all foods off-limits to me because they contain gluten.

My first exposure to Celiac disease came when my dad was diagnosed with the illness over 20 years ago. It took his doctors several years to determine an auto-immune disease was the cause of his digestive issues.

Knowing that Celiac disease is a genetic disorder, I was able to self-diagnose my own gluten-intolerance symptoms (abdominal pain and bloating) a decade later. I completely eliminated gluten from my diet and was rewarded with relief from my symptoms. It wasn't easy to switch to a gluten free diet, but living without the pain and digestive issues has definitely improved my quality of life.

It took a few years to get an official diagnosis of Celiac disease from my doctor. It's fairly easy to diagnose the disease if you're still consuming gluten, but I wasn't willing to start eating gluten again to confirm what I already knew. Eventually, an endoscopy combined with a blood test gave me the official diagnosis.

    ABOUT THE BLOG

When I started my gluten free journey in 2008, I thought my days of enjoying my favorite foods were over. Back then there weren't many gluten free flour options available. I'm happy to say times have changed!

I created Flavor Walk as a way to archive and share favorite recipes with family and friends. I'm a self-taught baker who enjoys adapting standard recipes into gluten free versions.

In the Recipe Index you'll find a variety of sweet and savory choices. Baking is my favorite way to create tasty dishes. There's something about following a recipe and producing a flavorful treat that's very rewarding. However, you need more than just baked goods on this gluten free journey. I've included savory main dishes to balance out the sweets.

My most popular recipes include: Easy Gluten Free Blueberry Muffins, Chicken Enchiladas for Two, Gluten Free Banana Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting, and Toasted Coconut Butterscotch Oatmeal Cookies. All are easy recipes to add to your gluten free diet.

My husband Jim helps out with editing, taste testing, and dish washing. He's also my number one sous chef.

My hope is these recipes will help you on your gluten free journey and add a little extra flavor to your life.

    FUN FACTS ABOUT ME

I'm a morning person during the week and an evening person on the weekends. I love playing tennis, but don't get to play as often as I'd like. Fall Saturdays find me enjoying college football with Jim. When I'm not in the kitchen, Jim and I enjoy walking on the river trail near our home.
