Hi! I’m Connie and I’m so excited you stopped by my blog! I started Flavor Walk as a way to archive and share my favorite recipes with family and friends. I’m a self-taught baker who enjoys sharing old and new recipes with all of you. While I plan to share many of my favorite recipes, I also plan to write about other things that add flavor to my life.
When I was growing up, I learned sharing good food was a way to celebrate. Whether it was at birthday parties, holiday functions, weddings, and even funerals, good food was a big part of connecting with people.
I also learned food can be comforting and trigger special memories. Every time I frost a powdered sugar cookie, it takes me back to the times I spent in my mom’s kitchen making cookies with her. I remember, too, the fun of licking the mixing spoon before washing the dishes. I still enjoy that to this day.
My favorite way of creating food is to bake. There’s something about following a recipe and producing a flavorful treat that’s very satisfying. For me, baking can also be a great way to relax and reduce stress. Whether it’s hand mixing ingredients, kneading dough, or forming shapes, it requires all of my focus.
Several years ago, I was diagnosed with Celiac disease and had to stop consuming gluten. I stopped baking for quite a while because there weren’t a lot of gluten-free flour options out there. With gluten-free flour more readily available, I’m happy to be baking again. Now I look for recipes where I can substitute gluten-free flour without completely changing the look and taste of the food.
I used to think I’d like to open a bakery. The idea of spending all day, every day, baking delicious treats was very appealing. However, I was afraid turning baking into a full-time job would take away the fun and enjoyment. This blog gives me the opportunity to keep the joy and share favorite recipes that give flavor to my life.
